The construction sector in Ecuador plays a fundamental role in the economic dynamism of the country, generating employment and contributing significantly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). However, the COVID - 19 pandemic has severely impacted these companies causing drops in productivity, income and profitability. This study aims to evaluate the economic impact of the pandemic on construction companies in the city of Loja between 2018 and 2023, using an approach based on the gray rhinoceros theory. A quantitative, non-experimental and longitudinal methodological design was employed, analyzing key financial indicators using the wilcoxon test and the cohen d metric, ROA was considered as the main indicator of profitability due to its ability to measure the efficiency in the use of assets, instead of net profits, which may be influenced by external factors such as financing or taxes, also the average sales were analyzed to evaluate the variation of income in different periods and complement the profitability analysis. The results reveal that the pandemic represented a foreseeable risk with devastating effects on the industry.
