Abstract

This study aimed to develop, validate, and define a self-perception instrument to assess the digital competencies of university teachers in English language teaching in Costa Rica. Based on previous research hand theoretical frameworks on digital competencies, a questionnaire was constructed, focusing on key dimensions such as digital literacy, ICT integration in teaching, and teacher appropriation and commitment. The methodology employed a quantitative approach with a correlational and cross-sectional design, utilizing statistical techniques, including Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), Classical Test Theory (CTT) and Item Response Theory (IRT), to evaluate the instrument's validity, reliability and objectivity. The results enabled informed decision-making and the definition of the most appropriate instrument for application to university English language teachers at the national level.
