This work establishes an analysis of the opacity level of the urban buses that belong to the fleet UNCOMETRO S.A., based on test methods described in national regulations (NTE INEN 2202, NTE INEN 2207 and the Municipal Ordinance of Cuenca). The compliance of a Vehicle Technical Review (RTV, acronyms in Spanish) process and the mechanical state of the fleet are determined. In this research, samples are collected in 24 buses, measuring the opacity level by using the free acceleration method described in NTE INEN 2202. The results are compared with the values established in the municipal ordinance of the Decentralized Autonomous Government (GAD, acronyms in Spanish) of Cuenca, in order to determine if those values have coherence with the real and mechanical state of the buses. A total of 157 opacity measurements are taken in the mentioned transport units, so that, from this database, the research analyzes can be carried out. Finally, the development of this research constitutes a reference for the future drafting of a municipal ordinance that provides the opacity limit ranges of public transport in the city of Azogues.
